The Adjunct Faculty Association has planned for the adjunct faculty of the Maricopa Community Colleges an enjoyable day of learning, networking, and connecting.  During the luncheon program, the Adjunct Faculty Association will be recognizing adjunct faculty who have been selected through a process at their respective college to receive the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award.  Also recognized will be adjunct faculty who have served Maricopa Community Colleges over the past fifteen years. 

Learning Sessions:  Each learning session will be approximately one hour in length.  Sessions A and B will be offered for two one-hour sessions each, back-to-back, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  Session C will only be offered one time, at 10:00 a.m.  This will provide attendess the opportunity to attend both Sessions A and B, or Session C and also Session A or B.

A.  Title:  Emerging Technologies and the 21st Century Learner
                Dr. Veronica Diaz, Instructional Technology Manager
                Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction
Description:  Wondering what Web 2.0 means? Or, what Web 2.0 tools have to do with teaching and learning?  Come to this interactive session where we'll learn about these tools, including Blogs, Wikis, Google Docs and others, and how can they can be applied to a variety of instructional delivery modes: face-to-face, hybrid or online.

B.  Title:  Student Success in Challenging Economic Times: Sharpening the Focus
                 Dr. Sylvia Manlove, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
                 Maricopa Community Colleges
Description:  During tough economic times, it is often believed that the focus of higher education is strictly on survival. While shrinking budgets and limited resources are a reality, so is the reality that the community colleges play a key role in helping students to gain career opportunities through education. This session will give an update on Maricopa Community College’s programs and support services focused on student success, as we strive to ensure that our students can not only survive, but that they are able to thrive during these tough economic times.

C.  Title:  From Combat to College
                Annette Lavelle, OEF-OIF Outreach Specialist, Phoenix Veteran Outreach Center
Description:  This presentation will explain the characteristics of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to include biological, psychological and physical symtomolgy. Problems discussed with include those that Veteran students encounter when entering a college atmosphere after returning from combat zero.



ARIZONA MASTER TEACHER SEMINAR SCHOLARSHIPS - The Adjunct Faculty Association will award during the conference luncheon program, scholarships for adjunct faculty to attend the Arizona Master Teacher Seminar.  The AMTS will be held May 31-June 4, 2009 in Prescott, Arizona. at the conference.  These scholarships will be provided through an application process.  For the application and eligibility details, please go to: http://mcli.maricopa.edu/files/afa-conference/azmt-application.pdf
