Procedures - How to Apply

Step 1
Submit your innovation description as an email attachment to your college or District Office Innovations Liaison. Please check with your college or District Office Innovation Liaison regarding your site due date.
Step 2
Site Liaisons will submit the winning innovation selected through their site selection process to MCLI by Wednesday, March 14, 2012.  The submission should include the Innovation Description, digital innovation team photo, and electronic file of presentation media material.
Step 3
The winning Innovation Team from each college and the District Office site will make a presentation to the Innovation of the Year Awards Final Selection Committee.  The date for all presentations to be made to the Final Selection Committee is Friday, March 30, 2012.   
Step 4
Each winning college and District Office Innovation Team will be recognized for their creative contribution to MCCD at the Innovation of the Year Awards Program at the Rio Salado College Conference Center, Tuesday, May 1, 2012, 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

Innovation Submission Requirements:
The Innovation Submission should include, 1) the Innovation Description, and 2) a digital photo of the Innovation team. 
  1. Innovation Description -  The entire Innovation Description cannot exceed three (3) pages, in total (including any supplementary material). Submit the Innovation as an electronic file (in WORD). The Innovation Description should include the following:
A.    Title of the innovation, name of submitting college, name(s) and title(s) of team member(s), team member’s college(s) or affiliation (if a team member is from outside of the colleges and/or if college is different than submitting college), and telephone number(s) of the individual or team members who created the innovation. If a team member has the designation of “Dr.”, provide "Dr." with the name and title.
 
B.    A paragraph, directly following the information in A. above, entitled Executive Summary, that briefly describes the innovation (not-to-exceed 50 words). If chosen as a winning innovation, the Executive Summary will be used in the program for the Innovation of the Year Awards Program scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, 2012, as well as provided to the League for Innovation for their purposes.
 
C.   Provide a descriptive overview of the innovation, relating how the innovation addresses program criteria.  
  1. IOY Team Digital Photo - The winning innovation team selected from each college/district office will be required to submit electronically one color digital photo of the individual or team who created the innovation. The digital photo should be 5x7 and at least 300 dpi. Identification of the team member(s) in order of appearance should accompany the photo.
Presentation Before Selection Committee
The winning innovation selected from each college, and the District Office will be required to make a 20 minute presentation (including set-up and introductions) to the Innovation of the Year Awards Final Selection Committee on Friday, March 30, 2012.  The presentation should include the following:
  • Highlights of the innovation, using visuals to supplement the presentation (electronic file of media materials to be submitted to MCLI by Wednesday, March 14, 2012).
  • Include testimonials of the impact of the innovation to the college and to the education of students.
  • Allow for a brief question and answer session with committee members (not to exceed 5 minutes).
The districtwide innovation will be announced at the Innovation of the Year Awards Program on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Rio Salado College Conference Center.  At this event, each winning college/district office innovation team will be recognized and asked to provide a brief summary of their innovation.
