To arrive at SCC, exit the 101 Freeway at Chaparral Road - head east. SCC is located at the northeast corner of the 101 and Chaparral. There are 4 entrances into SCC from Chaparral. We recommend that you enter SCC at Entrance 3 and Park in Parking Lot G.
The Science Lecture (SL) Building is located between the Faculty Office Building (FOB) and the Life Science (LS) Building on the north side of the sidewalk heading west from the northern side of Parking Lot G, as shown on the campus map.
Conference Purpose: This conference will provide a forum to discuss best teaching practices, focusing on developmental education. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from various sessions that focus on strategies for engaging students and promoting student success.

Dr. Maria Harper-Marinick
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, Maricopa Community Colleges
Maria Harper-Marinick, Ph.D., is the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost for the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona. As the chief academic and student officer for the Maricopa system, Dr. Harper-Marinick provides oversight for curriculum; academic research and assessment; university relations, transfer, and articulation; grants development and management; international education; faculty professional growth and development; high school to college pathways and outreach programs; and workforce development. Other areas of responsibility for the Maricopa system include institutional effectiveness and small business development.
As Executive Vice Chancellor, Dr. Harper-Marinick also works closely with the Chancellor in three major areas: definition and implementation of the District's strategic plan and allocation of resources to achieve the plan; working with the colleges to enhance and support student success; and building the stature and recognition of the District and its Colleges locally, nationally, and internationally.
Dr. James A. Middleton
Professor of Engineering Education, Director of the Center for Research on Education in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology, Arizona State University
Dr. James A. Middleton is Professor of Engineering Education and Director of the Center for Research on Education in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology at Arizona State University. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Middleton served as Associate Dean for Research for the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education at Arizona State University for 3 years, and as Director of the Division of Curriculum and Instruction for another 3 years plus. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992, where he also served in the National Center for Research on Mathematical Sciences Education as a postdoctoral scholar for 3 years. His research has focused on mathematical motivation and the design of courses, curriculum and classroom environments that promote productive mathematical disposition.
