About
The purpose of this learn shop is to expand and improve the art of teaching and learning through Mind, Brain and Education Science. The most current and relevant brain research on how the brain learns that informs best teaching practices will be shared. How the brain is transformed by technology and the internet will be explored and best teaching practices for these brains will be explored. Practical application to specific curricular areas will be designed and developed through simulations, role play, and collaboration.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- Describe practical ways to integrate MBE Science into current teaching practices
- Explain how technology and the internet are affecting adult learning
- Apply known brain processes to design instructional strategies for specific competencies in areas of instruction
- Apply strategies, tools, and best teaching practices that empower all learners in the environment to participate and engage in active learning
- Describe available resources for MBE Science; learning opportunities, websites, articles , books and other resources

Facilitator
Janeth Franklin is adjunct faculty at Glendale Community College in Child and Family Studies, pursuing an Ed.D in Higher Education and Adult Learning from Walden University, 27 years as an educator in public elementary and special education. She has studied with Dr. Pat Wolfe, Dr. Mary Helen Immordino- Yang and Eric Jensen learning about bridging the gap between neuroscience and education. Every year she meets with Dr. Pat Wolfe and her “Brainy Bunch” which is a group of more than 30 educators from USA and Canada who meet to study and learn the latest neuroscience from neuroscientists. Among the neuroscientists she has studied with are Dr. Helen Norville, Dr. Robert Nelson, Dr. Robert Sylwester, Dr. Jeffery Schwartz, Dr. Jay Giedd, and Dr. Charles Nelson. She attends several Learning and the Brain Conferences and the Johns Hopkins Brain Summit every year to keep up on the most recent research on MBE Science. She is a member of the International Mind, Brain and Education Society and the New York Academy of Sciences. Her passion as an educational neuromessenger is sharing the newest information about Mind, Brain and Education Science to instructors, staff and students so they will be informed of best teaching and learning practices through the science of how the human brain learns to promote student success.
