Arleen Arnsparger
Center for Community College Student Engagement
University of Texas at Austin
Few people have spent as much time learning with many different community colleges as Arleen Arnsparger…community colleges that differ in size, geography, social and economic factors and student diversity. As leader of the Initiative on Student Success, Arleen visits colleges each year interviewing students to learn about their college experiences, sitting down with presidents, and listening to faculty and staff. Her work is currently focused on the high school/college transition.
Since her early career as a TV and radio reporter and newscaster, she’s been a professional listener! Arleen asks questions that get to the heart of people’s perceptions, experiences and actions.
Arleen leads the Initiative on Student Success at the Center for Community College Student Engagement -- home of the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE) at the University of Texas at Austin. She previously served as a college administrator at colleges in New York and Colorado; adjunct faculty in both 2- and 4- year institutions; and an education policy wonk and member of the senior management team at the Education Commission of the States, working with governors, state leaders and school districts throughout the country on education improvement.
In addition to her work in the community college sector, Arleen writes and speaks about how to bridge generational differences in the workplace. She is the co-author of the books 4genR8tns (4 Generations): Succeeding with Colleagues, Cohorts & Customers and the recently-released Millennials@Work (Millennials at Work). In her home state of Colorado, Arleen works with communities that are welcoming new immigrants and striving to meet the challenges and the opportunities in their changing demographics.
