The Project DEgree (Developemental Education) learning community program combines best practices of developmental education to promote student success. Phoenix College’s Project DEgree program has proven that it works! According to the Gateway to College National Network (GCNN) website, “An estimated 40% to 70% of entering students need to take at least one remedial course and many get stuck there, never moving on to transfer-level college courses.” To address this problem, GCNN is conducting a two-year pilot program called “Project DEgree” that is designed to help improve the success rate of first-year college students who test into developmental courses. Nine community colleges across the country are currently participating in this study, which is now beginning the second year. Come and learn about the techniques, strategies, and philosophies underlying Project DEgree, and how you can implement a Project DEgree-type program at your own college.
